Envisioning a collaborative future
In February 2022, after nearly two years of pandemic impacted operations, a half-dozen regional conservation partners began gathering informally to discuss their organizations’ challenges and goals. They wondered, “Moving forward, how might Tree for All’s collaborative approach help to advance our objectives?” The time seemed right to convene partners and aligned stakeholders throughout the region to explore how to prioritize actions and focus available resources in the years to come.
Building on this idea, partners gathered in October 2022 and January 2023 at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. Their purpose was to envision the work they can do together and to propose compelling initiatives that reflect common goals and shared values, while strengthening relationships and building trust.
Common Goal
A healthy Tualatin River Watershed ensures quality of life and helps us adapt and thrive in the face of climate change. Tree for All aspires to work together on nature-based initiatives for a healthy watershed through strong partnerships that are equitable and based on trust.
Shared Values
Strong partnerships: Enable partners to leverage collective strengths, develop adequate capacity, and be accountable for results.
Community: Ensure that projects address diverse community needs and connect to regional priorities.
Ecosystems: Acknowledge that social and ecological needs are more important than political boundaries and that a healthy watershed depends on both private and public land.
Equity: Actively include underserved communities, youth, and Indigenous people early in the planning of projects by meeting people where they are, listening to their concerns, and incorporating their ideas.
Quality of life: Recognize that access to nature provides unique benefits to people and must be available to everyone.
