A Community Commitment to Green Space
In the southeast corner of the county, the City of Sherwood (population 20,000) boasts an impressive combination of green space and farms in close proximity to thriving residential and commercial development.
The City is a partner in several Tree For All projects including Cedar Creek-Stella Olsen, whose site sits close to the Sherwood’s picturesque town center; Woodhaven Park, just upstream from the Tualatin National Wildlife Refuge, one of very few urban refuges in the country; and Chicken Creek, which meanders for two and a half miles through the Refuge before it skirts Sherwood’s west and north sides.
The City of Sherwood also partners with Friends of Trees and Clean Water Services to host community tree planting events.
Recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA since 2004, Sherwood dedicates a full chapter of its Comprehensive Plan to the value of open spaces and natural resources to the community and outlines goals and policies for the protection of designated historic resources.
